Finished Project

The roof has many different type of shingles you can get to put on. This one came with a shake shingle roof which is probably the hardest type to have. You will need to glue each shingle on by itself which is time consuming. I did this step to be sure they were straight and on right. Once all were in place I sprayed the whole house with a clear sealer that has a mat finish to help seal it against dirt and things as my daughter plays with it.

After getting the walls up you will be working on the individual rooms. Size is the key in placing these partitions. You want to place them where they will not get in the way of a window or dormer.

Livingroom

Here in the living room I have added wall paper after I painted the ceiling. I then added the flooring. Many of these type parts can be found at Hobby Lobby. Ours have several selections and ideas for making the house your own. This is a great learning tool for my daughter on color coordination and decorating. My wife and her will be getting furniture and items to put in the house as well.

Bedroom

The bedroom area is upstairs and is painted purple and has a wall paper that is a lighter color but has a purple design in it. Again we painted the ceiling and floor before putting the wall paper up. The wall paper is glued on with a type of wall paper paste like the real thing. So this was a good learning experience for my daughter but she did a good job on it.

Staircase

YES there is even a little staircase for this house. On this you will need to paint this after you put it together but before you install it in your house. You also need to paint the ceiling and floor and install the wall paper before the staircase is installed. A lot of this you will find in common sense if you spend some time thinking of what you want it to look like before putting it together.

Painting the walls

It has been a while since I started this project. Please remember I am doing this with a 5 year old and we both are learning in this process. When you begin I mentioned that you should lay out all the pieces and purchase the wall paper and extras before you begin. This is a project that you will need to read all the instructions before you start so you can see where you will be going.

Painting the walls

Pre-paint you piece before you attach it. This is probably the most time consuming part of the project. It will make the house look much better when you are done and your little one can be involved in this step. The smallest piece will be easiest to paint before you attach it.

When you begin to build the house this plan began with the windows in putting them together and then attaching them to the house. The windows come with a sash which needs painting. We painted them a light blue. Then we glued the window on with Elmer’s glue. Then we painted the frame a medium blue and the sills and top a dark blue. After it was all painted we glued all the pieces together with a glue gun. You will be using a glue gun the most in this project so be sure to purchase a good one that will be able to be on most of the time. Some of the cheep ones if left on for an extended time like it will be on this project will burn up and you will be left unable to continue.

building the doll house

This is the doll house I bought off my web page for my daughter. I gave it to her for Christmas and we opened it last evening to look at it and begin to assemble it. She is so excited about building it but I told her we are going to take our time so that it will be pretty and fun to play with.

This comes with 10 wood cut out pages and one clear window page, sand paper, and instructions. The instructions also give an 800 number to call if you do not understand something. The basic process is to follow the instructions painting or wall papering the pieces before putting it together. You can use Elmer’s glue which will take longer and you will need some small clamps to hold things in place or if you are careful you can use a hot glue gun and several sticks. Either way this will take several evenings and we are going to use it as a daddy daughter time. When we are done then mommy will get involved and take her out to get furniture and dolls for it.

You will need to purchase several things for this project
1. The kit itself can be ordered off my web page
2. Paints for the house, craft paints will work then spray it
with a satin finish
3. Wall paper if you choose to use it. It does add a lot of
detail quickly
4. Craft knife set for cutting the wood again can be found on
my wen site
5. A craft glue gun and glue sticks

I hope you will give this project a try. This is one of the smaller houses to build but if my daughter likes this then we will build a bigger one later.

I will be having further posts in upcoming weeks to update everyone on the progress and try to show how easy this is even for a year old girl. I will be doing the gluing but she is going to help with the painting and decorating.

I am going to be building this doll house for my daughter for Christmas. She is 5 years old and loves playing with any kind of doll. I thought I would build it and my wife could help with the decorating of it. Then after Christmas we all could go to the store and buy some furniture for it that my daughter would like. woodworking kits – doll houses

The idea of woodworking has always been a joy of mine. I grew up with a dad that is a carpenter and he showed my many of the tools necessary for woodworking. We have created many thing both large and small through the years. Now I am showing my daughter who just started kindergarten. She enjoys creating anything right now and is getting a good imagination as well. She made a horse and put it in the fair this year and won a first prize. I am doing many of the wood working with the big tools but she sands and paint the projects and does very well. Below are some ideas of things you can do with your little ones as well. This will give you time together and no matter how it comes out you will have memories that will last a life time.

Here is an instruction video on building your own rocket to fly. This can be alot of fun and an interesting hobby. If you have never tried a kit before I would first build several kits to get used to the ideas spoken of and then try your own design.
